So you have been working a lot lately. Chances are that you have been putting way too much of yourself lately into the work that you’ve been doing. Looking at your performance it is clear that you were doing pretty well.
But things aren’t the same now.
I was told that you have been displaying some behavioral changes. I am talking about your habits actually. Things are the same anymore. Your room looks different now (Will talk more about that later). And the same is the case with yourself as well. The entire outlook of yours is changed.
But when did it all started? Well, we shall uncover the reasons behind, in some other article. And let’s just dedicate this article solely to the signs of burning out. Clear-cut indicators show that you deserve a break from your current hectic lifestyle. So without any further ado, let’s hop straight into it. Shall we?
Signs you are burnt out (You deserve a Break)
- Your entire nature has changed.
- Your Hobbies aren’t your hobbies anymore.
- You don’t want to hold on to your relations.
- Pessimism and irritation have become a part of your character.
- Unhealthy habits are increasing in number.
- You can’t even focus on the work now.
- You have lost your creativity somewhere.
- Thinking about the work is what you do all the time!
- Regular work activities are more frustrating now.
- Concentration Problems – You have started forgetting things.
- You have become less organized.
- Achieving milestones isn’t as exciting now.
Alright. So without any further ado, let’s get straight into the list of signs showing that you are burnt out and that you need a break. Shall we?
1: Your Entire Nature has changed.
Let’s put you under observation today. Shall we?
You use to love going out. You were this person who was also so passionate about things. But not anymore…
It looks like somebody has taken your soul away from you… Hey! Look at me, brother. What has happened to you?
You were so motivated all the time. No matter what the task was, you used to do it 100% and the happiness on your face showed that you were a competitive person!
But everything has changed now. The only thing you prefer doing now is “nothing”. Yeah, it is very hard to say (from my end) that everything has changed for the worst.
- You don’t want to have fun.
- You are always laying down on your bed. It looks like you are lost somewhere or that you have done something wrong and the guilt has taken over you.
- You just can’t think of anything that you can do, that can make you happy.
All of these things are clear signs of the fact that you are burnt out. Your extreme efforts have put you in this situation. Hey! You deserve a break.
2: Your hobbies aren’t your hobbies anymore
I remember how much you loved painting. You were always ready to paint something.
And now, your paint board is laying somewhere around in the house and you don’t care where it is.
Ok, chances are that you have just grown to the next level and maybe you have adopted some other hobby or maybe you feel like the old hobbies of yours weren’t that suitable. Alright, that happens.
Can you please name the replacement of the old hobbies that you are doing now? Oh, nothing. Great.
Let’s not lie now. Ok? We all know that you hate everything now. Let me rephrase the sentence… “You don’t care about anything, anymore”.
Things that you loped doing, be it Watching YouTube, playing games, reading books, painting, etc. All of that is gone now. You don’t care any of that, anymore.
Just to be sure, please check if this sign exists along with the first sign that we just talked about… And if both of these signs exist in your personality simultaneously then, unfortunately, you are burnt out. And you deserve a break, ASAP.
3: You don’t want to hold on to your relations.
The next one on the list of clear signs you are burnt out is the fact that you don’t want to hold on to your relations anymore.
- Are your friends telling you that you have stopped putting in efforts into the friendship?
- Do they keep saying things like, “Have you found someone else?”
If thats the case then chances are that, A: You have found somebody else or B: You are lost in your own self.
I know that you haven’t found somebody else. You have had this friend for like forever and he is your best friend. But just recently you aren’t appearing as much as you used to. You aren’t participating in the gathering, not investing your share into it anymore.
The same thing is happening with the other relations of yours as well. All of them are complaining but you simply don’t care about anything anymore. You are like, “Go, just Go!”. They might think that you have become careless or that you have become selfish but we both know the reality.
You are unsure but I am pretty sure that you are burnt out. All of this is happening because you have outworked yourself and your brain is super tired now. This exhaustion and carelessness are nothing but the side-effects of burning out.
4: Pessimism and irritation have become a part of your character.
Have you started seeing negative in everything? Chances are that you have started noticing the fact that you’ve become a very negative person, and you can’t do much about it.
You get irritation quite soon… Your patience level has decreased to Zero. Whenever somebody does something that you don’t like, you get super angry! It has been seen that you have got into a bunch of fights and the reasons in almost all of the cases were super childish.
You can’t see anything positive happening to you. Hope and Optimism are nowhere to be found in your character traits.
This is bad…
It is bad for yourself as a person and your future as well. Because these are the traits that attract positive people and without these traits in you, people are going to run away from you thinking that you are the negative person in general.
Hey! Nobody looks into your soul and sees the “Why?” behind your traits. What they perceive about you is just out of the things that they see from their eyes. That’s it.
So yeah, if pessimism has taken control over you and if you seem to get angry real quick along with the irritation, then chances are that you have not only become toxic for the world but your own self as well…

5: Unhealthy habits are increasing in number.
And the next thing in the list of signs of burning out/signs that you are burnt out and deserve a break is, “increase in the number of unhealthy habits”.
I have seen the photos in which you looked like a model. Things were very different before my friend. You used to look 10/10, my god this skin of yours used to glow. I remember Ali came to you almost every day just to compliment you and he was always very genuine about things.
Hey! What exactly happened that changed the entire thing?
- You stopped eating healthy meals.
- Dressing sense – You stopped dressing well.
- You don’t want to wash your face twice a day like you should, the way you used to do before.
- You haven’t been to the gym in the past 2 months.
What is all of this? I think I have an explanation of what’s going on here. Let’s call it, “Burning out”. Shall we?
Gentlemen! You were such a performer. All-rounder you were, but then things changed. You started outperforming and over time your brain started getting tired. But you ignored that and now you are at this stage where you don’t feel like doing anything anymore.
You have no drive to live a happy life, to look good, etc. All of this happened just because of the carelessness that you showed towards yourself. All of these signs scream, “Break”.

6: You can’t focus on the work.
In fact, it isn’t about the focus as well. You are trying your best but at the end of the day, you are always making mistakes. One mistake and the other there.
Why is this happening to you? A person who used to nail it all day, every day, has suddenly become this person who is showing this kind of carelessness all day, every day.
Why can’t you focus on the work after trying so hard? Well, I guess know the reason behind your scenario. And I know exactly what you are going through.
Gentlemen! You can’t focus on the work because you are burnt out. These mistakes that you are making are due to the force you are putting on your brain, which is already very tired.
Your brain deserves a break, a change in your lifestyle yours is going to help you come back stronger. But instead of doing that, you are continuously trying to get better at work. Hey! Without the real problem being solved, you just can’t expect everything to go normal, life before. It just doesn’t work like that.
To regain your level of focus and excellence, you need to relax and give yourself a fair enough period of a break because you are burnt out.
7: You have lost your creativity somewhere.
Let’s talk about your creativity. Shall we?
I remember hearing stories about your humor. People used to take notes and say “WoW” then you used to turn a situation, making everybody laugh with a joke that nobody was ever able to crack in such a situation. It required an active thinker like you to raise a joke in such a situation.
The same goes for the ideas that you used to present. And the way you used to deliver the speeches, the points that you picked were just amazing. Everybody used to take notes.
But now, you are sitting blank. Your boss is scolding you for not doing the work. What is your work? For a person as creative as you, this work would have been a task of 2 minutes only. But due to some reason you aren’t able to come up with an idea!
It almost feels like you have lost your superpowers. You had superpowers, yeah! But they have gone somewhere. And I am sure you want them back.
You want them back, I know you can’t feel anything at the moment but in reality, you want your crown back.
Don’t worry gentlemen! This happens to the best of us. You have worked your best, your performance was always very phenomenal and because of that, you are now in a grey zone. You are burnt out my friend and that’s completely fine. All that you need to do is to give yourself a break.
8: Thinking about the work is what you do all the time!
You can’t focus on the work and because of that, you have this sort of guilt inside you. Although you are looking for ways to shift your work on somebody else but still, there is this thought inside you all the time… The memories of work.
You have your work with you all the time, no matter where you are. At home, gym, in the university, etc. Your work life has taken over your entire self.
And this is a clear sign of what’s going to happen to your real soon. Sooner or later you are going to end up getting frustrated and then you are going to give not even a single damn about the work.
Even if you are not burnt out at the moment, always thinking about the work and involving yourself in the work is something that definitely burns you out.
9: Regular work activities are more frustrating now.
And here it is. The effects are coming already. You had worked on your mind all the time and you were getting this motivation from the appreciation that was coming your way from everywhere…
Due to that, you ended up getting your brain so tired that now you’ve started hating yourself. Regular work activities are a burden on you now.
The amount of work that you used to do before, your beloved job that you used to appreciate a lot before, is now a burden for you. Things are getting frustrating for you…
You are looking for ways to shift your work on your colleague, in fact, you’ve started talking negatively about your job and you are always thinking about the ways to quit.
Why is that so? Why have you suddenly started seeing too much bad in every situation? This same employer was disciplined and a man of values for you and now, you think that he is overrated and undeserving. Hmm, I believe that this is a clear sign of negativity, irritation (like we discussed before as well), and for sure you are super close to burning out if you aren’t already.
10: Concentration Problems – You have started forgetting things.
Hey! what’s going on?
Your friend told me that you find it hard to remember things. Is that so?
Maybe so you are so lost inside yourself or maybe you don’t care about anything anymore. Both of these are clear signs of the fact that you are burnt out. Your mind is super tired and due to that, your mind does not want to concentrate anymore. You have been trying to make your brain work more, but Nah, My Boy! Young billy wants to relax instead.
Since you can’t concentrate on things, you always end up forgetting things. Memory problem, something that you never had before has suddenly Popped up. You forget things at home, somebody who never forgot anything anywhere is now forgetting things one here and the other there.
You were given instructions, but Nah, you failed to remember any of those. And that made people think that either you do not want to concentrate or that you have some sort of memory problems going on.
But we both know the real problem. We know that it isn’t about the memory but the overworked thing. You have overworked yourself my friend and you deserve a break!
11: You have become less organized.
The next one on the list of signs you are burnt out (you deserve a break) is, “you have become less organized now”.
At the start of the article, I said, “Your Room does not look the way it used to look before” or something like that. Do you know what I meant?
I think you know. Your brother told me about the organization level that you were on. Everything was just so organized, on point. But now, things are different.
You haven’t just stopped caring about yourself but your room as well. The entire setting, the organized bedroom that you had before, is gone now. You used to make your bed, the first thing when you used to leave your bed. But now looking at your room, your bed, and the other things, makes you believe that this bedroom belongs to a super careless dude.
Things are scattered everywhere and thats a huge problem. You need to take note of these things, ASAP!
Guys! You need to understand that this sudden change isn’t a coincidence. Things weren’t disorganized before like they are now. You used to do all of your work on time. Things were organized, your to-do list was check-marked every single day and everything that you used to do was in a particular manner.
What about that now? Things are changed now. You aren’t able to keep things organized like you used to do before and this shouldn’t be ignored. All of this is happening because you ignored the basic right of yours. Mental health is what I am talking about my friend.
12: Achieving milestones isn’t as exciting now.
And last but not the least, probably one of the most saddening and yes a very clear signs of the fact that you need a break now and that you are burnt out.
You used to be super excited about everything. I remember how you used to laugh and throw a party whenever something positive happened.
You divided your main objective into several smaller milestones. Earlier, you used to be super happy once you were able to achieve a milestone. But that excitement seems to be gone somewhere. You do not as excited, anymore.
Yes, you get happy but that excitement stays for just a few moments. This feeling of sadness and dissatisfaction is a clear sign of the fact that you are burnt out. It shows that you need a break ASAP or you will destroy your mental health!
